Will It Beat Out Superman? I'm Taking Bets.

So I saw The Devil Wears Prada last night with the other Lala.

Some observations:

  1. We should’ve bought tickets early, like TOL said…the first show was sold out. While it put a slight cramp in our evening (and in TOL’s wallet because it meant we had extra time to wander little Banana), it allowed us to be in a theater filled more with adults than with young girls who can’t even pronounce couture.
  2. I always suspected (read: assumed) that though this was a chick lit movie it was still going to cater more to the 'tween set. However, I found it interesting that the veritable "draws" (ie Anne Hathaway and Adrian Grenier) for the teen queens were completely and totally outdone by Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci. If I had to put money on it, I'd bet you that the later is the one who stole the show.
  3. Adrian Grenier is H-O-T. Anne Hathaway, not so much. She has pretty eyes, but as TOL and I discussed, her less pretty looks sort of kind of detracted from the movie. And she slouches. A lot. I mean, look at even the picture above. But man, has she gotten to act with some of the best of the best.
  4. I would love to have that job. I could totally be Anna Wintour’s (oops, I mean Miranda Priestley’s) assistant if it meant going to Starbucks three times a day, getting my pick of the latest designer duds, meeting big name designers, having a driver, jetting off to Paris for Fashion Week…
  5. Simon Baker was cute (with my imagined haircut for him) but too old for Andy’s character…I don’t remember him being extremely older in the book.
  6. Was the cupcake for Nate’s birthday from Magnolia??
  7. There were a lot of older people in the audience. Like 50 and over. What are they doing reading chick lit? And how did they get their poor husbands to come with them?
  8. Speaking of, the guy sitting next to us left 30 minutes in…and never came back.
  9. I read some reviews today and, while they were favorable, I did not see basis for the Oscar innuendo.
  10. Did I mention Adrian?

What makes something chick lit?

She does slouch, which is weird. After showing the boobs in Brokeback you'd think she'd stand up straight. haha!

I agree, Simon Baker was cute, but did he have an eyejob or something? When they first cut to him I almost jumped out of my seat because he looked so weird.
